The Hold Steady are one of my favorite current acts. They bring straight-up rock and roll with a modern sort of Springsteen sound. I heard them last week on Sound Opinions, a great music radio show from Chicago. Most of the band was there and they played a few tracks acoustic. This one really stuck out. Without the blasting electric guitars, the vocal melody and a beautiful accordion line have space to carry the song. I always considered One for the Cutters to be a pretty good supporting track on their last album. But acoustic, I felt like I was hearing the song in a whole new way – like it came off a really great Unplugged performance. So check it out. I hope you hear something new too.
